A Beautiful Backyard Wedding on a Rainy Day in South Kingstown
AJ & Sarah’s Wedding in South Kingstown
There are so many beautiful places in and around South Kingstown for weddings, but nothing is as uniquely personal as getting married in your back yard. Especially when the groom has cleared land, built an arch, constructed a lighted path, and purpose-built the ideal space for their special day!
The tree cover was definitely helpful on this day, as it was a rainy September afternoon. While it didn’t keep everyone completely dry, it certainly allowed everyone to avoid the worst of it! I’ve loved every rainy day wedding that I’ve had to opportunity to photograph. It’s always a special time 🙂
Setting the Scene
Here are some people-free images of what AJ built for their wedding day. He clearly put a lot of work into this, and despite the rain, nothing was going to ruin this backyard wedding! As far as at-home weddings go, this was by far one of my favorites that I’ve had the pleasure to photograph!
Rainy Day Wedding Ceremony
Yes, those are umbrellas, but it didn’t stop us from getting some great shots! The rain wasn’t super heavy (at least, not during the ceremony) but was just enough to let us know that we might be getting a bit wet!
It really gave this outdoor wedding a unique vibe. When you want to be outdoors with nature, you need to take everything that nature brings. Many say that rainy day weddings are a sign of luck!
Wedding Photos in the Rain
Once the wedding ceremony was finished, the guests departed for the reception location (the Tamarack Lodge in CT) and AJ and Sarah stayed behind for some couples photos.
We could have taken them elsewhere (and likely, drier) but this was too beautiful of a setting to let it go unused.
While we had to get the umbrellas out for some of these photos, they didn’t mind it at all. Umbrellas add a special charm to photos (even when it isn’t raining) and it helped to ensure they were good-to-go for the rest of their wedding day!
From Rhode island to Connecticut
While the ceremony was at home in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, the rest of the wedding day was further away, at the very unique Tamarack Lodge in Voluntown, Connecticut. While I primarily photograph weddings in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, I do occasionally travel to other states as well. This wasn’t too far away and it was the perfect setting for their wedding reception! Want to view what a wedding at the Tamarack Lodge looks like?
